Lucia Vanekova and Berwyn’s 6th Ward Alderman Ted Polashek (in black and white), and Jan Haupt and Marketa Kellerova, demonstrate Rock and Roll Acrobatics during the July 14 City Council meeting. The group is currently teaching Rock and Roll Acrobatics classes at Sokol Tabor Hall from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Polashek hopes to bring the dance style, which is popular in Europe, to Berwyn and the Chicago area, which would make it one of the only groups in the United States.
The cost for the next 12 sessions over three weeks is $75. Another class that will meet twice a week begins in September. Anyone ages 13 and up who is interested in participating should stop by Sokol Tabor Hall, 1602 Clarence Ave.

No, not Ald. Burt Natarus (42nd).
This one is courtesy of Arenda Troutman, the defeated incumbent alderman of the 20th Ward. Note: incumbent aldermen in Chicago only leave office if they die, or retire and appoint their children. To actually be VOTED out, they have to have screwed up really, really badly.
During her almost 3-minute tirade, she blames voting irregularities, the federal government and a media conspiracy against her.
The election results below her show the reason for her ire. With 86% of precincts reporting, she is being buried by challenger Willie Cochran, 62% to 32%.
She does not mention that she is being investigated by the feds for shaking down a developer concerning a vacant parcel of land that wasn’t even in her ward. (She’s on audio tape from that little episode calling herself and her city council colleagues “ho’s”.) Or that an envelope addressed from the Police Department to her at her office was found in the apartment of a drug dealer. Or that said drug dealer was seen driving her $50,000 Escalade.
This election, her friends deserted her. Worse for any politician, so did her enemies.
About 48 seconds in, you’ll hear a voice say “Quit whining, lady. You lost!” I wonder who that could have been;-)
On a happier note, 3rd Ward candidate Pat Dowell has forced incumbent Dorothy Tillman “The Hat” into an April 17 runoff election.
UPDATE: On April 17, Dowell won.

I have an idea to stop government waste in Chicago. Let’s put cameras in City Council meeting and post City Council meetings on the internet for everyone to see. Who knows, maybe we’ll stop some of that government waste.

Public awareness video of a 5 year old student with Autism that has been left behind by the Chicago Public School system in 2008. After the student’s Special Education program was transferred to a new school in the 1st Ward, the student’s IEP bus transportation requirement has not been provided. School also has problems with disability access and a lack of parking for parents, along with poor street traffic management around school and illegal parking enforcement. No designated car drop-offs for disabled people is provided and no crossing guards are present behind the school. Owen finally got on a bus to school at Jose De Diego Academy on November 5, 2008 – five months after the transportation request was made in June of 2008 with his school transfer. This video was made October 27, 2008 by his father, a single parent widower.
